पीएमएसबीवाई 2026: ₹20 में ₹2 लाख का दुर्घटना बीमा

Quick facts: Just ₹20/year premium · ₹2 lakh for accidental death · ₹1 lakh for partial disability · age 18-70 · auto-debit from any savings account · automatic enrolment for E-Shram card holders · portal jansuraksha.gov.in.

The Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), launched alongside PMJJBY on 9 May 2015, is the cheapest meaningful insurance any Indian can buy — ₹20 per year for ₹2 lakh accidental death cover. To put this in perspective, a cup of tea costs more than your annual PMSBY premium. Yet as of 2026, over 49 crore Indians are enrolled, with 2+ lakh claims settled since launch.

  • Aadhaar linked to the account
  • Self-declaration of good health at enrolment

  • E-Shram card holders: enrolled automatically at zero premium (Government pays the ₹20/year)

Renewal is annual until age 70; after that, coverage ends automatically.

कैसे enrol करें — How to Enrol

Option 1: Net banking (1-click enrolment)

Most major Indian banks (SBI, HDFC, ICICI, PNB, BoB, Axis, Canara, Union, etc.) have a single-click PMSBY enrolment in their mobile apps:

  1. Log in → search “PMSBY” or “Suraksha Bima”
  2. Confirm name, DOB, nominee
  3. Accept auto-debit of ₹20/year
  4. Done — enrolment confirmation by SMS immediately

Option 2: Branch

  1. Visit bank with Aadhaar + savings account details
  2. Fill the PMSBY Consent-cum-Declaration form
  3. Add nominee details (critical)
  4. Submit → ₹20 debited

Option 3: Bank Mitra / Business Correspondent

Rural and semi-urban — enroll on the spot with biometric.

Option 4: E-Shram auto-enrolment

If you have an E-Shram Card, PMSBY is enrolled automatically as part of your card — Government pays the ₹20 on your behalf. Check your E-Shram profile to confirm.

Premium and Renewal

  • Annual premium: ₹20 (auto-debited on 1 June each year)
  • Bank account must have ₹20+ on 1 June
  • If debit fails, cover lapses for 30 days; pay manually to restore
  • Beyond 30 days → re-enrol with fresh health declaration

Practical tip: leave a minimum ₹500 balance in your account year-round. Between PMSBY (₹20) + PMJJBY (₹436) = ₹456 gets debited on 1 June every year for ₹4 lakh combined insurance cover.

Claim Process — Step-by-Step

Step 1: Immediate (within 30 days of accident)

Nominee informs the bank where the PMSBY is enrolled. The bank is the single point of contact.

Step 2: Documents needed

  • Original death certificate (from Municipal Corporation/Gram Panchayat)
  • Copy of FIR (police first information report)
  • Post-mortem report (for accidental death)
  • Nominee’s ID proof + bank account details
  • Claim form (available at bank or jansuraksha.gov.in)
  • Original PMSBY enrolment confirmation (if available)

Step 3: Bank submits to insurance partner

Claim is forwarded to the partner insurance company (typically a GIC subsidiary like New India, National, United, Oriental).

Step 4: Verification

  • Document check (15-30 days)
  • Independent investigator may visit the family
  • Medical / police report cross-verification

Step 5: Payout

  • Accidental death claim: ₹2 lakh credited to nominee’s bank in 75-90 days
  • Partial disability: ₹1 lakh, after 90-120 days (requires medical board certification)

PMSBY claim-settlement ratio: 96%+ as of 2026.

Disability Claim — Partial Disability Process

For partial disability (not death):

  1. Obtain medical board certificate within 12 months of accident
  2. Certificate must specify exact disability + percentage
  3. Submit to bank with claim form + FIR + hospital records
  4. Bank forwards to insurance company
  5. Medical verification → payout ₹1 lakh (partial) or ₹2 lakh (total)

FAQ — Common Questions

Is PMSBY enough or should I buy separate accident insurance? PMSBY’s ₹2 lakh is a baseline cover. If you’re the sole breadwinner, supplement with a personal accident policy for ₹10 lakh – ₹25 lakh (annual premium ₹1,500-3,500) from private insurers. PMSBY + personal accident = solid coverage.

Can I have both PMSBY and PMJJBY? Yes — and you should. They cover different events (accidental vs natural death). Combined premium: ₹456/year for ₹4 lakh total cover. Most financial planners recommend enrolling in both.

Does PMSBY cover accidents while driving without a helmet? Usually yes — PMSBY doesn’t exclude based on helmet or seatbelt use. However, drunk-driving accidents may be excluded (standard accident-insurance clause).

My E-Shram card auto-enrolled me in PMSBY. Do I need to enrol again at my bank? No. E-Shram auto-enrolment is valid cover at zero premium. Verify your E-Shram profile’s PMSBY section to confirm. But understand: only ONE PMSBY enrolment is active at a time — banks won’t double up.

What if I enrol but change my bank account? Inform your new bank; they can transfer your PMSBY enrolment. Alternatively, cancel old enrolment and re-enrol at new bank. Fresh 45-day waiting doesn’t apply to PMSBY (only PMJJBY has that).

What about accidents abroad? PMSBY generally covers Indian citizens on Indian territory. Accidents while traveling abroad are not covered. For international coverage, buy a travel insurance policy.
