FAQ — Common Questions

₹2 lakh seems small — should I still enrol? Yes. PMJJBY is not meant to be your only life insurance — it’s a starter cover for households that otherwise would have zero. At ₹436/year, even a higher-income family should enrol; combine with regular term insurance (₹50 lakh – ₹1 crore) for adequate coverage.

Can I have PMJJBY at multiple banks for ₹4 lakh / ₹6 lakh cover? Technically yes — you can enrol at multiple banks. However, at claim time, the total payout is capped at ₹2 lakh. Enrolling multiple times simply wastes premium. Use one enrolment; top up with a regular term policy.

I missed the 1 June renewal — is my cover gone forever? No. You have a 30-day grace window to pay manually and restore cover. After that window, you must re-enrol, and the 45-day exclusion clock starts over.

What if the nominee I named dies before me? Update your nominee via the bank — takes a few minutes at branch or on the mobile app. If you don’t update and you die, the payout goes to your legal heirs through succession procedure (slower).

Does PMJJBY cover suicide? Only if the suicide happens after 45 days from enrolment. Before 45 days, premium is refunded to nominee but ₹2 lakh is not paid.

Is PMJJBY premium tax-deductible? Yes — under Section 80C (general life-insurance premium deduction). ₹436 is a small component but still counts toward the ₹1.5 lakh 80C limit.
