Quick facts: ₹5,000 for first-child delivery (all categories) · additional ₹6,000 for second child if girl (under PMMVY 2.0, added 2023) · paid to pregnant + lactating women · via Anganwadi / ASHA / auxiliary nurse · portal wcd.nic.in/schemes/pmmvy.
The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is the Government of India’s maternity benefit scheme. Launched in January 2017, it provides direct cash support to pregnant and lactating women to compensate for wage loss during pregnancy and post-delivery. PMMVY 2.0 (2023+) added a ₹6,000 benefit for second-born girl children — a targeted pro-girl-child incentive.

FAQ — Common Questions
I had a miscarriage after first installment. What happens to it? The first installment (₹3,000) is for pregnancy confirmation + ANC — it’s not refunded even in case of miscarriage. You remain eligible for future first-child pregnancy; the original ₹3,000 is not deducted.
I’m a government school teacher — am I eligible? Government employees are typically excluded since they get paid maternity leave. However, some contract-based employees not covered by maternity benefits may qualify — check locally with Anganwadi.
My first baby is a boy and my second is a girl. Do I get both benefits? Yes. For first child (any gender), you get ₹5,000. For second child if girl, additional ₹6,000 = total ₹11,000 across both pregnancies.
Both my children are girls. Do I get ₹6,000 twice? No. The ₹6,000 is specifically for second child. First girl child gets ₹5,000 under Stage 1+2. Only the second girl gets ₹6,000.
I delivered at home. Am I still eligible? Yes. PMMVY doesn’t require institutional delivery. But institutional delivery adds JSY ₹700-1,400 benefit, so it’s financially beneficial to deliver at a govt hospital.
Is the money paid to mother or husband? Always to mother’s Aadhaar-linked bank account via DBT. This is a deliberate scheme design to empower women.
