पैन कार्ड 2026: Instant e-PAN, दस्तावेज़ और Correction गाइड
Quick facts:Instant e-PAN free in 10 minutes via Aadhaar OTP · regular PAN ₹107 (Indian address), ₹1,017 (foreign) · apply via NSDL / UTIITSL / incometax.gov.in · PAN-Aadhaar link mandatory · helpline 020-27218080.
The Permanent Account Number (PAN) is your 10-character alphanumeric ID with the Income Tax Department — mandatory for filing ITR, opening a bank account, buying/selling property, receiving salary above ₹2.5 lakh annually, investing in mutual funds, and countless other financial transactions. The good news: as of 2026, you can get an e-PAN in 10 minutes if you already have an Aadhaar card. Here’s every route to PAN — instant, regular, correction, and duplicate.
Used to correct name, DOB, address, or request duplicate
Option 1: Instant e-PAN — Step-by-Step
Go this route if you’re applying PAN for the first time and have an Aadhaar card.
Open https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ (e-filing portal)
Scroll to “Quick Links” → click “Instant e-PAN”
Click “Get New e-PAN”
Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number
Confirm you accept the declaration (age, consent to use Aadhaar)
Click “Continue”
OTP to your Aadhaar-linked mobile → enter it
Verify Aadhaar details (name, DOB, gender, address) pre-filled from UIDAI
Optionally provide email
Submit
e-PAN generated in ~10 minutes → download the PDF
Save the e-PAN PDF — it’s legally equivalent to a physical PAN card for all purposes
Download the e-PAN later
Go back to the e-filing portal → “Check e-PAN Status / Download”
Enter Aadhaar + OTP
Download PDF
Option 2: Regular PAN via NSDL
Use this if you need a physical card, are a minor, don’t have Aadhaar, or your situation requires manual verification (e.g., applying from abroad).
Step-by-step
Open https://onlineservices.nsdl.com/ → “New PAN for Indian Citizens — Form 49A”
Choose your application type: New PAN (individual) / Organization / Business
Fill the online form:
– Personal details (name, DOB, gender, father’s name)
– Communication address
– Source of income (salary, business, none, etc.)
– Identity verification method
Choose Aadhaar-based e-KYC (fastest) OR physical document submission
Upload or courier documents:
– POI — Aadhaar / Voter ID / Passport / Driving License
– POA — utility bill / bank statement / Aadhaar / Voter ID
– POD — birth certificate / Aadhaar / passport / Class 10 certificate
Pay ₹107 via net banking / UPI / card
Take a photograph via webcam (for Aadhaar e-KYC) or affix in specific boxes if paper-signed
Submit → get 15-digit acknowledgment number
Physical PAN delivered in 7-15 working days
Alternative: UTIITSL
https://www.pan.utiitsl.com — similar flow, similar fees. Use whichever loads faster or you’ve registered with before.
Option 3: PAN Correction / Duplicate
Correction (same fees)
Common corrections: name spelling, DOB, father’s name, address.
Open NSDL or UTIITSL → “Request for New PAN Card and/or Changes/Correction”
Fill Form 49A with current PAN + corrected field(s)
Upload supporting document (e.g., Aadhaar with correct name)
Pay ₹107 (same as new)
Corrected PAN delivered in 15 days
Duplicate PAN (lost/damaged)
Same process, marked as “Request for Duplicate PAN”. No documents needed beyond current PAN + identity proof; same ₹107 fee.
e-PAN reprint
If you lost the PDF you downloaded, go to NSDL e-PAN Reprint, enter Aadhaar + PAN + OTP. Fee: ₹8.26 (one-time). Or use the e-filing portal → “Check/Download e-PAN”.
PAN-Aadhaar Link (Mandatory)
As of 1 July 2023, every PAN holder in India must link PAN with Aadhaar. Missing this makes your PAN inoperative — you can’t file ITR, claim TDS, or use it at banks.
Check your link status
Open https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/
“Link Aadhaar Status” (under Quick Links)
Enter PAN + Aadhaar + OTP → status displays
Link fee
₹1,000 late fee (paid at e-filing portal via Challan 280 under sub-code 500) if linking post-deadline
Once paid and reflected, link through “Link Aadhaar” on the e-filing portal
Why this matters
PAN becomes inoperative if unlinked → bank transactions fail, ITR rejected, salary TDS at higher rate
Mandatory for every resident Indian PAN holder (NRI PAN exempt)
Typical Documents Needed (By Situation)
Adult applicant (Indian citizen)
POI — Aadhaar (most common), passport, voter ID, driving license
POA — same as POI or a utility bill / bank statement within 3 months
POD — Aadhaar, passport, birth certificate, Class 10 certificate
Minor applicant
Applicant’s birth certificate (POD)
Parent/guardian’s Aadhaar + PAN (for verification)
Parent/guardian accompanies for photo-sign
NRI / Foreign address
Passport
Overseas bank statement or utility bill
OCI / PIO card (if applicable)
Fee: ₹1,017
Organization / Business
Certificate of incorporation / partnership deed
Authorised signatory’s PAN / ID
Company PAN application via Form 49A
e-KYC vs Physical Verification
Aadhaar e-KYC: fastest — Aadhaar OTP confirms your identity, no physical document courier needed, entire process online
Physical: you print and sign the form, affix photo, courier to NSDL/UTIITSL Mumbai; slower (10-15 days longer)
For the vast majority of individual applicants in India, Aadhaar e-KYC is now the default.

Is instant e-PAN the same as regular PAN?
Yes. The 10-digit PAN number is identical and legally equivalent. The only difference is that instant e-PAN is digital-only (PDF) while regular PAN also gives a physical card by post.
Can I apply for PAN without Aadhaar?
Yes. Use the physical document route on NSDL or UTIITSL — submit POI, POA, and POD documents. This is slower than Aadhaar-based e-KYC.
Is there a fee for instant e-PAN?
No. Instant e-PAN is completely free via the Income Tax e-filing portal.
My PAN is inoperative due to missing Aadhaar link. What happens?
PAN becomes inoperative — transactions requiring PAN validation fail and TDS is deducted at higher rates. Link Aadhaar (pay ₹1,000 late fee if after deadline) and status returns to operative in 30 to 45 days.
My name on PAN and Aadhaar doesn’t match. What should I do?
Update one to match the other. Updating Aadhaar is usually faster; alternatively, correct the PAN via NSDL’s correction form with supporting identity proof.
