FAQ — Common Questions
I’m a transwoman — can I apply? Current AICTE rules use Aadhaar gender. If your Aadhaar shows gender as “F” (female), you can apply. If marked as “T” or “O”, the scheme’s current language specifies “girls” — apply and check specific-year guideline or contact AICTE for clarification.
My income is ₹7.8 lakh — am I in range? Yes — income cap is ₹8 lakh. Ensure your certificate explicitly shows ₹8 lakh or below; borderline certificates sometimes get flagged — keep supporting documents ready.
I took lateral entry into 2nd year. Am I eligible? No. Pragati is only for students joining 1st year of the course through centralized admission process. Lateral entry students aren’t eligible.
My college isn’t on NSP — what do I do? If your college is AICTE-approved, ask the Principal / Nodal Officer to register. If already AICTE-approved, NSP registration is mandatory for scheme applications.
Can I get Pragati + Post-Matric SC/ST scholarship? Generally no — they overlap in tuition reimbursement. You’ll have to choose one based on which gives more. Post-Matric’s tuition + maintenance often combines to similar total; but Pragati’s ₹50,000 is clean single payment.
My 12th was from open school (NIOS) — am I eligible? Yes, if you cleared with NIOS and gained admission to an AICTE-approved technical course. NIOS is a recognized board.
