e shram card 2026
Quick facts: For unorganized workers aged 16-59 · free registration at eshram.gov.in or any CSC · gives you a lifetime 12-digit UAN · auto-enrolls ₹2 lakh accidental insurance (PMSBY) · helpline 14434.
If you are a daily-wage labourer, street vendor, home-based worker, rickshaw puller, construction worker, domestic help, farm labourer, or any other unorganized sector worker, the E-Shram Card is the single most important government document to register for. It opens access to multiple central welfare schemes, gives you automatic insurance coverage, and puts you on the government’s radar for future benefit rollouts — including the proposed unorganized workers pension scheme.
As of 2026, over 30 crore workers have registered. Here’s the complete, up-to-date process.
The E-Shram portal is India’s first-ever national database of unorganized workers. When you register, you receive:
The UAN is separate from the EPFO UAN used by organized-sector workers — don’t confuse the two.
If your family has one unorganized worker and one salaried (EPFO-member) worker, the unorganized one can still register independently. E-Shram is personal, not household-based.
That’s it. No fee, no physical forms, no certificate upload.
You can log in any time at eshram.gov.in with your UAN + Aadhaar OTP to update details, download the card again, or check PMSBY enrolment.
If your fingerprints don’t read (common with manual labour), the VLE can use face authentication as fallback.
If you’ve lost your card: 1. Open eshram.gov.in → “Already Registered” → “Update / Download UAN Card” 2. Enter your mobile or UAN + OTP 3. Download the PDF and print on any A4 paper
The card has no expiry, but your profile must be updated every year — you can do this yourself anytime. A warning banner appears on your dashboard if your profile is due for update.
Once your E-Shram registration is complete, you’re auto-enrolled in PMSBY with zero premium (Government of India pays ₹20/year on your behalf).
Coverage: – ₹2 lakh for accidental death or total permanent disability – ₹1 lakh for partial permanent disability (loss of one limb/eye) – Valid for one year from registration, auto-renewed as long as your E-Shram profile is current
To claim: 1. Call 14434 within 30 days of the incident 2. Provide UAN + FIR copy + medical certificate + death certificate (if applicable) 3. Designate your nominee (on E-Shram profile) clearly — this is who the ₹2 lakh goes to
Important: this is real coverage, actively paid out. Lakhs of families have received PMSBY claims through E-Shram. Keep your nominee details current.

No. State labour boards maintain their own construction worker cards with separate benefits. E-Shram is a central-government registration that complements — not replaces — state labour cards. Register for both where eligible.
The card remains valid but you become ineligible for fresh PMSBY auto-enrolment once you are an EPFO member. Update your E-Shram profile to reflect the change.
No. Each person’s Aadhaar must have its own linked mobile. Your spouse must link her mobile to her own Aadhaar before registering — update at the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
Yes, indirectly — via PM-SYM (Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan), which you can join through your E-Shram profile. You contribute ₹55 to ₹200 per month, the Government matches it, and you receive ₹3,000 per month pension after age 60.
Annually, on your registration anniversary. A banner alerts you on login. Missing the update does not deactivate the card but delays any new scheme benefits linked to your UAN.
