Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), launched in 2015, is the flagship of India’s Skill India Mission. The scheme offers free skill training + industry-recognized certification to Indian youth — with the core goal of enabling employment in high-growth sectors. PMKVY 4.0 is currently active (2024-2027), running under the revamped Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

PMKVY के घटक — Two Main Tracks

1. Short-term Training (STT)

• Duration: 3-6 months
• For: first-time job-seekers, Class 10/12 pass-outs, school dropouts
• Outcome: NSQF-aligned certificate + job placement assistance
• Stipend: transportation + boarding allowance (in some sectors) — not a direct stipend

2. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

• For: workers with existing informal skills (carpenter, plumber, tailor, cook, etc.) who haven’t been formally certified
• Duration: 1-2 days assessment
• Benefit: ₹8,000-12,000 reward (direct DBT) + official certificate upon assessment completion
• Works great for experienced workers to formalize their qualifications

पात्रता — Who Qualifies

Short-term Training (STT)

• Age 15-45 years (some sectors extend to 50)
• Basic literacy (Class 8 minimum; varies by sector)
• Indian citizen
• Not already employed in formal sector (preferred, not strict)

RPL

• Working Indian with practical skills in any registered sector
• Age 18+
• No formal education requirement — this is the point

Sector-wise variations

• Some sectors require Class 10 pass (e.g., IT-ITeS)
• Some require vernacular literacy (e.g., security, hospitality)
• No gender, caste, or income restrictions — open to all

आवश्यक दस्तावेज़ — Documents Required

• Aadhaar card
• Bank passbook (Aadhaar-seeded — for RPL reward or stipend)
• Previous education certificate (Class 8 / 10 / 12 as applicable)
• Passport-size photograph
• Residence proof
• Mobile number (Aadhaar-linked)

For RPL applicants: – Employment / work experience proof (employer letter, earlier industry certificate, GST registration for self-employed, etc.)

How to Apply

Option 1: SkillIndiaDigital App

1. Download “Skill India Digital” from Play Store / App Store
2. Register with mobile + OTP
3. Complete profile (Aadhaar-based e-KYC)
4. Browse available PMKVY training centres near you (search by pincode + sector)
5. Apply to specific training programme
6. Center contacts you for enrollment

Option 2: PMKVY Online Portal

1. Open https://pmkvyofficial.org
2. Click “Register as Candidate”
3. Fill application with personal + sector preference
4. Select nearest training centre
5. Attend counseling → enroll → training begins

Option 3: Walk-in at PMKVY Centre

Find centres at skillindiadigital.gov.in → “PMKVY Centres Near Me” → walk in with documents → enroll.

Training Process

1. Enrollment → student data logged in Skill India portal
2. Classroom + practical training — typical 200-600 hours
3. Assessment by third-party assessor (NSDC-authorized)
4. Pass: NSQF certificate issued
5. Placement support: center helps connect with employers
6. Post-placement: tracking for 3-6 months

RPL Reward Payout — How and When

• Reward amount: ₹8,000 (general) or ₹12,000 (for deeper 36-hour RPL Type 4 assessments)
• Paid via DBT to Aadhaar-linked bank account
• Timing: 2-6 weeks after successful assessment
• Certificate: NSQF-aligned, industry-recognized
